Paper Weight and GSM Options
GSM (grams per square meter) measures paper weight per unit area. It’s a helpful starting point when you compare custom deli paper options, because heavier paper generally feels more substantial in the hand. But GSM isn’t thickness, and it isn’t a performance rating. Grease resistance, moisture resistance and strength depend on the base paper, any wax or coating, and how you use the paper. We offer standard weight bands and can supply to a GSM you specify.
Paper Weight and GSM Options
| GSM range | Typical use | Selection note |
|---|---|---|
| 18โ25 GSM | Light-duty wrapping and basket liners | Check your food’s grease and moisture exposure before choosing |
| 30โ35 GSM | General wrapping where a lighter hand-feel is preferred | Confirm against your food and workflow |
| 35โ50 GSM | General-purpose deli wrapping and lining; 38โ40 GSM is a frequently used baseline for everyday wrapping | A common starting point |
| 50โ60 GSM | Applications that need more substantial handling | Heavier paper isn’t automatically more grease-resistant or heat-tolerant |
| Custom GSM | Any weight to match an existing specification or sample | Tell us your target GSM or send your current specification |
Available Deli Paper Sizes and Formats
Size your paper to what it has to cover. Measure the food, basket or tray, then choose a sheet that gives you the overlap you want. A larger sheet isn’t automatically better, because oversized paper adds material and can slow wrapping. We offer custom deli paper sheets in standard sizes and custom dimensions, specified as width ร length in inches.
Available Sheet Sizes
| Sheet size | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 6 ร 6 inches | Small or compact portions |
| 6 ร 8 inches | Smaller sandwiches |
| 7 ร 10 inches | Small sandwiches or wraps |
| 8 ร 8 inches | Compact basket liners |
| 10 ร 10 inches | Smaller sandwiches and standard liners |
| 10 ร 12 inches | Larger wraps and sandwiches |
| 12 ร 12 inches | Common reference size for wrapping |
| 12 ร 16.5 inches | Larger wrapping and lining |
| 14 ร 14 inches | Larger subs, wraps and generous coverage |
| Custom dimensions | Foods, baskets and trays outside the standard sizes |
Dispensing Formats for Deli Counters
The format changes how your team works at the counter.
- Pre-cut Sheets: For manual wrapping, basket lining and portion-controlled stations.
- Interleaved Sheets: Separated sheets for easier handling and dispensing.
- Rolls: Dispense and cut at the workstation instead of handling individual sheets.
- Perforated Rolls: Consistent tear-off portions.
- Custom-Cut Liners: Length, width and shape to fit nonstandard trays and baskets.
Typical roll widths run 6โ24 inches and lengths 200โ1,000 feet, with 1, 1.5 or 3 inch cores, and we can supply custom roll specifications. Tell us about your dispenser or station so we can match the roll to it.
Materials, Wax and Coating Options
The base paper and the treatment applied to it do different jobs. The base paper sets the look and feel, while a treatment such as grease resistance or wax changes how the paper behaves with food.
Material and Coating Options
| Material or treatment | Main function | Selection consideration |
|---|---|---|
| White base paper | A bright, neutral surface | Strong contrast for printed brand colors |
| Natural-brown base paper | A kraft-style, natural look | Suits a rustic or artisan brand; print contrast differs from white |
| Uncoated paper | Base paper with no added coating, easy to fold and handle | Uncoated doesn’t mean greaseproof; suited to dry or lightly exposed foods |
| Grease-resistant paper | Constructed to limit oil and fat penetration | Choose for fattier fillings; performance depends on the construction and conditions of use |
| Wax-treated paper | Wax treatment can add moisture resistance and release | Suitability depends on the wax and construction; not intended for oven use |
| Polymer-coated paper | Added barrier properties | May affect recyclability; food-contact suitability is construction-specific |
| Silicone-treated paper | Release and non-stick behavior | Relevant only where you need release; not a default for deli wrap |
Wax and grease resistance aren’t the same thing: wax describes a treatment, while grease resistance describes how the finished paper behaves with oils and fats. Parchment is a separate, release-oriented paper category rather than a substitute for deli wrap. For continuous wax-treated rolls, Explore our custom food packaging to see the wider range.
Custom Printing and Branding
Custom printed deli paper turns every wrap into a branded moment at the counter. Whether you want deli paper with a logo only or an all-over repeat pattern, we print to your artwork on the paper construction you select.
- Logos and Patterns: A single logo, a repeat pattern or a promotional message.
- Print Colors: Single-color, multicolor or CMYK artwork, matched to your design and paper.
- Print Sides: One-sided or two-sided printing, depending on construction and use.
- Print Methods: Flexographic, digital or offset printing, chosen to suit your paper, artwork and order.
- Artwork and Proofs: Upload your artwork with your quote request, and approve a proof of placement and repeat before production.
Printed deli paper works best when the paper surface and the print process suit each other, so we select them together. Where print will sit on a surface that touches food, tell us how you’ll use the paper so the finished construction and ink choice can be considered.
Cutting and Converting Options
Converting turns the paper into the finished sheet or roll your team actually uses.
- Sheeting and Cutting: Sheets cut to your finished width and length.
- Slitting and Rewinding: Finished rolls from a wider parent roll, for roll orders.
- Perforation: Repeatable tear-off portions on suitable rolls.
- Interleaving: Separated sheets for easier handling and dispensing.
- Die Cutting: Shaped liners for nonstandard trays and baskets.
Not every process suits every paper and print combination, so describe how your team uses the paper and we’ll recommend a configuration that fits.
Applications of Custom Deli Paper
Different services ask different things of the paper. Here is how our custom deli wrap paper fits the most common uses.
Sandwiches, Subs and Deli Counter Wrapping
Pre-cut or interleaved deli sheets are the everyday choice for wrapping sandwiches, subs and counter-served deli items, and rolls suit stations that dispense and cut at the counter. Choose a sheet large enough to fold around the item with comfortable overlap, a paper weight your team finds easy to handle, and a grease-resistant construction where fillings are fatty or oily. Add your logo or pattern so every order leaves the counter branded. If sandwiches and subs are your main use, explore our custom sandwich paper too.
Burger Wrapping and Serving
For burgers, the paper needs to cover the bun and filling, hold its fold and cope with grease and moisture from the patty and toppings. Choose a sheet size and a grease-resistant or other suitable construction based on how fatty or moist your burgers are, and print your brand on the wrap. Hold times and serving temperatures vary by operation, so tell us how your burgers are served. For a burger-focused option, explore our custom burger paper.
Food Basket and Tray Lining
Flat sheets or custom-cut liners sized to your basket or tray give suitable foods a clean, branded presentation surface. Measure the basket or tray, choose a finished size with the overhang you want, and select a construction suited to the food’s grease and moisture exposure. A printed repeat pattern works well here because there is no wrap fold to align. If you need a formed, three-dimensional serving format instead of a flat liner, explore our custom paper food trays.
Bakery and Grab-and-Go Packaging
Cafรฉs, bakeries and grab-and-go counters use deli paper to wrap or present baked goods and prepared takeaway items. Suitability depends on the item: glazed, buttery or oily products call for a more grease-resistant construction than dry baked goods. White paper shows bright artwork, while natural brown gives a more rustic look. Tell us what you serve and we’ll help you choose the right paper.
How to Choose the Right Custom Deli Paper
You don’t need to know every paper specification to get started. Work through these steps, and tell us what you know.
- Define the food and use. Note what you’re wrapping or lining, and whether it’s dry, moist, fatty or hot.
- Choose a construction. Decide whether grease resistance, moisture management or presentation matters most.
- Set the size and format. Measure your food, basket or tray, then choose sheets, interleaved sheets or rolls to suit your workflow.
- Pick a paper weight. Start with how the paper needs to handle, and remember that GSM alone doesn’t guarantee performance.
- Plan your branding. Decide on your logo or pattern, colors, print sides and artwork.
- Confirm quantity and timing. Check our minimum order quantity and delivery timeframe against your launch plans.
Food-Contact Suitability and Product Documentation
We supply food-grade, food-contact paper for food-service use, produced to meet applicable FDA food-contact requirements. Compliance applies to the finished paper, meaning the base paper, any wax or coating and any inks, and to how you use it, including the type of food, temperature and contact time. Grease resistance doesn’t make a paper suitable for every hot or oily application, and wax-treated paper isn’t intended for oven use. Tell us about your food and service conditions, and ask for the supporting documentation that applies to your configuration when you request a quote.
